The Beauty Of Life
Life has truly changed from what we were used to. Since Covid-19 began affecting the whole world, so many changes have happened, so many lives have been lost and/or suffered the devastating effects of this sickness, and so many of us had to adjust to this “new normal”. I am aware that it is different for each of us. The way that it has affected me it is probably not the same for you. But even then, we can all agree that things are not what we were used to, and most likely, harder than they were before…
I think the hardest for me has been seeing how it has affected my kids. Even going to the grocery store is a whole new different task! “Don’t touch this, don’t grab that, stay farther away from that person, keep your hands to yourself, don’t touch your mask!”… Yet, the hardest thing is realizing how they have been deprived from others: from interacting and playing, sharing snacks and crayons, running into loved one’s arms. If you know my kids, then you know how social and outgoing they are (they got that from dad! LOL), and having to be away from others it is so hard!. They constantly ask “When is the virus going to go away?…” to what I do not have an answer.
Yet, even in the midst of all these changes, even under the weight of all the new rules of interaction, even on days that things are just so overwhelming and hard, they seem to always find joy and ways to share kindness. No matter their circumstances, the love they have for life and its little things has only increased. To be honest, I struggle with that every day, and my own kids show me daily how, no matter what happens, life is beautiful. Of course they miss things, they wish they were different or like before, but that doesn’t seem to rob them from the beauty of today. And that’s the heart of this blog entry, a hope that you and me can be like little kids; simple, honest, with a desire to thrive, not allowing the ugly and bad to rob us from the beauty of life and the joy of kindness.
One of the things I am most grateful for right now and that I wanted to acknowledge is my kids’ teachers and school staff. They are one of the main sources of human interaction and investment my kids have under the current circumstances. Though it happens through the screen of an electronic device, it truly makes a huge impact. I wish you could hear them as they sing their “Morning Songs” and how they respond loud and clear to their teachers questions! They sit and look forward to be a part of their class, to participate, to listen and be heard. The amount of effort and hard work their teachers/schools have been doing to work under these challenging circumstances is truly amazing and I am most grateful for how they seek to invest and care for my kids through the online platforms we use. It really makes their day! Though we look forward to the day they can return to school, right now, seeing their teachers and their friends is a gift and they love every minute of it!
As they were “in school” last week, I took some photos (trying to be sneaky) of them interacting and working. I wanted to capture what it feels like “on this end” and how my kids are so blessed by those behind those screens. Thank you to all teachers & school staff! Your hard work makes a big difference to bring joy and life to the hearts of our children.
