The hunt

One of my favorite things to do is to "hunt" for local places that would be great for photos. I love adventuring to new farther-away places, but I truly enjoy finding beautiful spots around the area we live in. Usually, I get my kids in the car, and we just drive around neighborhoods and areas that we have driven by before, but that we may have overlooked. And those are my favorite discoveries: finding the hidden corner of a park and realize the magical scene that appears once you take a minute, get your knees on the ground, see the light and look through the lens. It gets me so excited to see that a place could be seen in a whole different light if we took the time to stop and find its hidden beauty. This is what I call "the Spot Hunt". It is a mental and emotional practice that forces me to look “inside the box”, to stop and wonder, to see beyond the appearances. It allows me to discover beauty where others may have missed it, and it helps remind me that it takes a bit of effort to see beyond what it appears! and more than often, the effort pays off with almost magical beauty!
